CAROLYN ELDER learned to sew as a child from the elderly lady who lived next door, her mother, and See and Sew patterns. She has designed costumes for theatre productions throughout the Sacramento region since 1972. In addition to working summer stock theatre, she worked in the costume shop at CSU, Sacramento for many years. Carolyn holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts, and a M.A. with an emphasis in Theatre Arts Education. She is a Fellow of the California Arts Project and studied theatre at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
For the past 28 years, Carolyn has taught theatre in Sacramento and Elk Grove and served on the board of directors of California Educational Theatre Association (CETA) for 24 years. Carolyn worked on the State of California’s writing committees for the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework and California State Standards. In 2008, the American Association for Educational Theatre (AATE) awarded her the Lin Wright Award for "most improving theatre education for students kindergarten through twelfth grade in the United States.”
Currently, Carolyn teaches theatre arts for Elk Grove Unified School District, owns and opperates Costumes Enough, and continues training her dogs, Brandy and Oscar, to read "sit," "down" and "stay."
